14 RTG cranes revamped and converted to E-RTG
For Kerry Siam Seaport we sourced, delivered, revamped and converted 14 rubber-tyred gantry cranes from diesel to electric drive.
The programme
Rather than new equipment, the programme gave existing RTG cranes a second life. The work was carried out in three batches:
- 8 × 16-wheel RTGs, sourced in Europe and shipped to the port
- 4 × 8-wheel RTGs
- 2 × 4-wheel RTGs
What we did
- Sourcing of the cranes and transport to the port
- Full mechanical and electrical revamping
- Conversion from conventional diesel drive to electric E-RTG
- Testing and commissioning at the terminal
Why E-RTG
An electric RTG draws its power from the terminal’s grid instead of a diesel generator, which means lower fuel costs, lower emissions and less noise in the yard. Revamping and converting existing cranes delivers this at a fraction of the cost of new equipment.
